Based on the Jubilee cycles evidence below, I believe Daniel’s 70th week may have started in September 2017, on the 120th anniversary of Jubilee since creation. If so, the 3.5-year ‘Great Tribulation’ will start during Passover in March 2021, and God’s kingdom on earth will physically begin on the Day of Atonement in September 2024. This day will mark the 70th anniversary of Jubilee since Joshua led Israel to possess their promised Land in 1406 BC. On this day Jesus will fulfill Jubilee, our release from bondage in this world.
Before proceeding let me respond to the common challenge that,
“No man knows the day or the hour, so how can we know these dates?”
My response is that Matthew 24:36 and Mark 13:32 are referring to a Jewish idiom that Yom Teruah, the annual Day of Trumpets, was known as ‘the day that no man knows’ in ancient Israel. This was because the date of Yom Teruah is dependent on the verified sighting of the first sliver of the new moon in Israel. All the other appointed times in Leviticus 23 are celebrated by (or calculated from) dates on the Jewish lunar calendar.
Of course, modern computers can calculate the moon’s cycles precisely, but this doesn’t matter because the start of Yom Teruah depends on human observation. If the new moon isn’t sighted on the first day it’s expected, the beginning of the month of Tishri is delayed until the next day, when the moon should be sighted.
Yom Teruah establishes the first day of the seventh month of Tishri. As a result, only after the Tishri new moon is sighted, setting the first day of Tishri, can we know the specific dates for the Day of Atonement & Jubilee (10th of Tishri) and the Feast of Tabernacles (15-23rd of Tishri).
So, did Daniel’s 70th week and the 70th Jubilee start in September 2017?
What is the Jubilee?
The Biblical Jubilee year happens once every 49 years. It starts on a Day of Atonement–the holiest day on God’s calendar–when the High Priest entered God’s presence to ‘cover’ the sins of the whole nation.
Old Covenant Jubilee
Under the Old Covenant, Jubilee was every 49 years when all debts were completely erased and all properties in Israel were restored to their original owners.
New Covenant Jubilee
For New Covenant disciples, Jubilee is the time when we’ll receive fantastic spiritual blessings, including complete deliverance from our sinful nature, glorification, immortality, and our eternal, heavenly inheritance in God’s kingdom.
God’s Pattern and Sequence of Events is Revealed in God’s ‘Appointed Times’
God established these 7 ‘appointed times’ for His people in Leviticus chapter 23 in the Bible:
- Unleavened Bread
Jesus literally fulfilled the first 4 (Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, and Pentecost) on the exact days and times while the Jews were celebrating them.
Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume God will fulfill the remaining 3 (Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles) in like manner, exactly on their annual anniversaries in our future.
The Biblical Jubilee
A year of Jubilee occurs every 49th year, beginning on a Day of Atonement.
“And you shall count off seven sabbaths of years—seven times seven years—so that the seven sabbaths of years amount to forty-nine years. Then you are to sound the trumpet far and wide on the tenth day of the seventh month, on the Day of Atonement. You shall sound it throughout your land. So you are to consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty in the land for all its inhabitants. It shall be your Jubilee, when each of you is to return to his property and to his clan.” (Leviticus 25:8-10)
The 50th year is the same as (it overlaps) the first year in the next 49-year cycle. Here’s a diagram to illustrate this overlap:
So, in this diagram, both year #1 and year #50 are Jubilee years.
Here’s an example: Every week has 7 days. According to the Bible, Sunday is the first day and Saturday is the seventh day. The next Sunday would be the eighth day, but it’s also the first day of the next week.
If this 49 versus 50 concept is confusing, watch this video for a good explanation.
When is the next Jubilee year?
If you do a Google search on this topic you’ll see there’s a lot of ignorance, disagreement, and confusion about this question. It’s a mystery.
According to Leviticus 25:1, the Biblical Jubilee cycle started when Israel entered the Promised Land.
I discovered a BibleArchaeology.org article which convincingly proves that Joshua led Israel to enter the Promised Land in 1406BC.
Based on this 1406BC start date and a 49-year Jubilee cycle, the next Jubilee will be in the year 2024, and it will be the 70th Jubilee.
Here are my calculations:
2024AD + 1406BC = 3430 years.
The pattern and dates fit exactly, just as they would if they match God’s plan.
2017 and the 50-Year Cycle
In the 20th century important events happened for the Jews and the nation of Israel in 1917 and 1967, 50-years apart, making people wonder if something big would also happen for Israel in 2017, which is 50 years after 1967 and 100 years after 1917.
But, other than the Revelation 12 Sign in the heavens, I can’t find anything ‘big’ that happened regarding Israel in 2017–at least not on the same level as the 1917 Balfour Declaration or the 1967 Six-Day War.
People naturally associated this 50-year 2017/1967 cycle with Leviticus 25:11, which says, “You shall have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee” and assumed that since every fiftieth year is a Jubilee, therefore 1917 and 1967 must have been Jubilee years because God did good things for Israel on these events which were fifty years apart. But, I think this is an incorrect assumption.
Using my example of Sunday through Saturday above, a week has 7 days, not 8. In the same way, the Jubilee cycle should be calculated using 49 years, not 50. For a compelling presentation why 49 should be used for Jubilee calculations instead of 50 see Jubilee Year Cycle (49 or 50?)
The 50-Year Cycle?
Now that I’ve said the Jubilee cycle repeats every 49 years, I’m going to seem to contradict myself. The number 50 is also associated with Jubilee cycles, but the 50-year cycle starts with Adam, not at 1406 BC.
In his classic book Number in Scripture, E.W. Bullinger wrote,
“Fifty is the number of jubilee or deliverance. It is the issue of 7×7 squared, and points to deliverance and rest following on as the result of the perfect consummation of time.”Number in Scripture, pg 268
So, what does the 50-year cycle symbolize regarding Jubilee? The apostle Peter wrote,
“Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” (2 Peter 3:8)
6000 years is therefore six days, and this reminds us of the 6 days of creation before God rested on the 7th day.
Most Bible teachers believe this means mankind will have 6000 years before the ‘7th-day’ millennial reign of Christ begins. 6000 is evenly divisible by 50, resulting in 120. 6000/50 = 120
The number 120 will immediately remind Bible readers of what God said in Genesis 6:3, after 200 angels cohabited and produced the nephilim with human women, resulting in the judgement of Noah’s flood:
“My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.” (Genesis 6:3)
The Perfect Consummation of Both the 50 and 49 Year Cycles
Let’s connect the dots… I believe there is a 50-year cycle that’s reckoned from creation, ending on its 120th anniversary in 2017, while the 49-year Jubilee cycle is reckoned from 1406 BC, ending on its 70th anniversary in 2024.
After 6000 years, the 120th anniversary of the 50-year 1917/1967/2017 cycle coincides with the beginning of Daniel’s 70th week in September 2017
The 70th anniversary of the 49-year Jubilee cycle coincides with the end of Daniel’s 70th week in September 2024.
When Does Daniel’s 70th Week Start?
Daniel 9:27 famously states, “And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week“. Most people believe “he” refers to the Antichrist, who will make a ‘covenant with many’ for 7 years. They teach the ‘covenant with many’ is a 7-year peace treaty.
But, others believe “he” refers to Jesus, who confirmed the New Covenant in His own blood, poured out for many.
This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:28, also Mark 14:24)
If the New Covenant in Jesus’ blood is the ‘covenant with many’ prophesied in Daniel 9:27, we probably won’t know when God starts Daniel’s 70th week time-clock until 3 and 1/2 years later, when the Antichrist publicly commits “the abomination of desolation.”
But, if my calculations are correct and the 70th Jubilee is fulfilled in 2024, then Daniel’s 70th week (the final 7 years of this age) has already started in September 2017.
7 Years – 86 Moons – 2550 Days
There is one final piece in the puzzle to consider. As you can see in the chart below, the span of 7 years in Daniel’s 70th week must have a total of exactly 2550 days, with 86 moons, not 87 lunar months. This criteria narrows the years that are eligible to fulfill prophetic requirements.
“And from the time the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation set up, there will be 1,290 days.”Daniel 12:11 BSB
2550 is derived by adding 1260 + 1290.
- There are 1260 days in the first half of the 7 years (3.5 years x 12 months x 30 days per month)
- According to Daniel 12:11 there will be 1290 days in the second half of Daniel’s 70th week, after the Abomination of Desolation.
Click the link under the chart below for a more-detailed explanation of this 86-month, 2550-day requirement.
In his book The Time of the End Pastor Tim Warner estimates that the 120th anniversary of a 50-year cycle since creation will occur on Yom Kippur on 10/1/2036. He also states:
- Abraham was born in the 40th Jubilee year
- The Exodus from Egypt occurred in the 50th Jubilee year
- Cyrus released Jews from captivity on the 70th Jubilee anniversary, after 70 years in captivity.
- Daniel’s received his 70 weeks prophecy in the 70th Jubilee anniversary year
His calculations are based on the 50-year Jubilee cycle, but I respect pastor Warner so since the 2029-2036 time period isn’t covered by the 86-moons chart above I wanted to see if the interval from 2029-2036 would also be a candidate, with 2550 days. I used the following two websites to determine the exact Gregorian calendar dates for Yom Teruah (Tishri 1) and Yom Kippur (Tishri 10), from 2017 to 2041, and then to calculate each 7-year duration between 2017 and 2041.
Results: From 2017 to 2041 there are only three 7-year periods that meet the 2550-day criteria; they are highlighted in green below. They are 2017-2024, 2020-2027, and 2025-2032.
The Abomination of Desolation Starts the Great Tribulation
Finally, while it’s extremely interesting to study these things, we can’t be sure that we’re in Daniel’s 70th week until we see the Abomination of Desolation, midway through Daniel’s 70th week. Jesus said,
So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination of desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve anything from his house. And let no one in the field return for his cloak.
How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not occur in the winter or on the Sabbath. For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again. If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened. (Matthew 24:15-22)
The Greater Exodus
The abomination of desolation will be our signal to escape in the Greater Exodus. More than 2500 years ago the prophet Jeremiah wrote that our future exodus will totally eclipse the historical exodus out of Egypt led by Moses. God will bring His children home from every nation worldwide.
“Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when men will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’ Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their ancestors.” (Jeremiah 16:14-15)
What Are the Next Sequence of Events?
There are many other events that must happen before the Abomination of Desolation in 2021, so don’t be surprised. Here’s a brief synopsis:
- America must be neutralized as Israel’s military ally. Only God will protect Israel in the Gog-Magog war.
- Israel invaded by Turkey/Iran/Russia in the Gog-Magog war
- The Manifestation of 144,000 Sons of God, resulting in the greatest revival in history.
- Israel rebuilds the temple and starts sacrificial offerings.
- Satan and his angels cast down from heaven to earth.
- Satan demonically possesses the man of sin. He becomes the Antichrist.
- The Antichrist commits the Abomination of Desolation in the temple, proclaiming himself to be god.
God’s end-time dates are a mystery. If the Great Tribulation starts during Passover in 2021 we’ll know Daniel’s 70th Week started in 2017. If not, it may start in 2020 or 2025, according to the 2550-day chart above.
Finally, we are certainly living at the end of the age, and troubles are already increasing for everyone on earth.
The good news is that God shall defeat all His enemies and God’s people have nothing to worry about.
“When these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28)
There is nothing man can do to us if we are in Christ.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
“For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39)
My advice is to be watchful. Abide in God’s Spirit continuously, listening and obeying His voice, and striving to make yourself ready for the Lord’s imminent appearing.
