I believe great tribulation is soon coming upon everyone in the world, and that we’ll need to ‘bug out’ of cities to escape the violence of desperate, starving people. Economic collapse, power grid down, and WWIII are all possible disaster scenarios in our future.
Before you dismiss me as a wacko prepper, this week the Washington Examiner wrote:
“Inadequate grid security, a porous U.S.-Mexico border, and fragile transmission systems make the electric grid a target for ISIS,” said Peter Pry, one of the nation’s leading experts on the grid.
Others joining Pry at a press conference later Wednesday to draw attention to the potential threat said that if just a handful of the nation’s high voltage transformers were knocked out, blackouts would occur across the country.
“By one estimate, should the power grid go down and stay out for over a year, nine out of 10 Americans would likely perish,” said Frank Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy in Washington.
At the afternoon press conference, Gaffney dubbed the potential crisis the “grid jihad.”
A lack of electricity would shut off water systems, impact city transportation services and shut down hospitals and other big facilities. Fresh and frozen foods also would be impacted as would banks, financial institutions, and utilities.
“The prudent sees trouble ahead and hides, but the naïve continue on and suffer the consequences.” (Proverbs 22:3)
Therefore, seeing trouble ahead, I decided to locate and buy some rural acreage as a bug out location. I chose nearby Lancaster County Pennsylvania as my target area, hoping to find some property with Amish neighbors. I bought a detailed map of Lancaster County at the Lancaster Barnes and Noble bookstore.
While we were still in the bookstore enjoying a Starbucks coffee, my wife asked me where in the county I was going to look. I told her I was going to trust the Holy Spirit to lead me. She rolled her eyes, then went shopping and I started my hunt.
A few minutes later, as I was driving I listened to a CD I’d made with a 2009 Tim Warner message about Revelation 12. As I departed Lancaster city into the beautiful countryside, I stopped the CD and prayed, asking God to lead me to the place He’d have me acquire.
When I turned the CD back on, here’s the next 3 minutes of what Tim was saying in his teaching:
I was shocked at God’s immediate and contrary response to my prayer. I had to accept that this message wasn’t a coincidence and that God was giving me clear direction that was opposite to what I was doing. So I immediately stopped looking for bug out properties and went home.
Now, rather than buying a rural bug-out location, I’m depending on God to protect us as my wife and I:
- Obey His commandments (John 14:15)
- Listen for His rhema words (John 5:19)
- Trust that He will deliver us like He delivered Noah and Lot—just in time, and with supernatural assistance.
Of course, I’ll still be prepared at home for power outages, food, and water shortages, etc., and I’ll keep bug-out bags packed in case we need to leave quickly (as Lot did), but I won’t be buying and developing a remote bug-out property.
Trouble is coming, and it’s coming soon. If you haven’t done any preparation, I encourage you to make sure you add these minimal supplies to your existing home contents. Then, if an ‘event’ occurs and the store shelves get emptied before you can stock up, you’ll be able to survive:
- Large bags of dry beans and rice
- Seasoning (adobo, salt & pepper, etc.)
- A drinking-water filter (Brita, Pur, etc.)
- Matches and/or lighters
- Enough blankets for winter temps without heat
- Unscented Bleach, for disinfecting and an alternate method of water purification
